David Cone was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Joan (née Curran; 1936-2016)[5] and Edwin Cone (b. 1934).[6] He attended Rockhurst High School, a Jesuit school, where he played quarterback on the football team, leading them to the district championship. He was also a point guard on the basketball team.[7] Because Rockhurst did not have a baseball team.
Larsen was born in Michigan City, Indiana.[1] Larsen's family moved to San Diego, California in 1944, where his mother became a housekeeper and his father worked as a department store salesman.[2]
Larsen attended Point Loma High School where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams.[3] He was selected for the All-Metro Conference team as a basketball player, and was offered several college scholarships to play basketball.
